Tamaryokucha from Japan (玉緑茶) is a premium green tea produced in the Kyushu region. Instead of being folded with needles like Sencha, the leaf is twisted, which gives it more color (dark green), a sign of the high quality of this type of tea. Tamaryokucha is an intimate green tea, accounting for only 5% of Japanese production. It’s similar to Sencha, although the leaves are rolled into commas instead of needles. Tamaryokucha tastes sweeter and rounder than Sencha.
